JOINT STATEMENT

JOINT STATEMENT BY MFA NASSER BOURITA AND MR. JOSEP BORRELL, HIGH REPRESENTATIVE OF THE EU FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND SECURITY POLICY

We have taken note of the judgments delivered today by the General Court of the European Union, concerning the decisions of the Council of the European Union relating to the conclusion of the amendments to Protocols 1 and 4 of the Association Agreement between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco relating to agricultural products and others and the partnership agreement in the field of sustainable fishing.

We will take the necessary measures to ensure the legal framework which guarantees the continuity and stability of trade relations between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco.

We remain fully mobilized to maintain cooperation between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco, in a climate of serenity and commitment, in order to consolidate the Euro-Moroccan Shared Prosperity Partnership, launched in June 2019. We will continue to work to develop the multiple dimensions of this strategic partnership, in the same spirit of mobilization, coherence and solidarity.

This equal partnership is based on a solid bilateral relationship, based on trust and mutual respect, between the Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union, while contributing to the strengthening of this relationship and that with member states.

Tindouf Camps: Italian MP Outraged at Diversion of Humanitarian Aid Intended for Detained Population

The Italian MP Mattia Fantinati expressed outrage at the case of diversion of humanitarian aid intended for the population held against its will in the camps of Tindouf.

In a parliamentary question to the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, the deputy referred to accusations of fraud in the management of international aid to the population held against its will in the camps of Tindouf, Algeria, noting that the “polisario” manages and enjoys various funds from international cooperation.

The Italian MP also warned that the humanitarian situation in the Tindouf camps could facilitate the infiltration of jihadist groups active in the region.

He also highlighted the content of the report of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) which had revealed the existence of massive misappropriation of international humanitarian aid by the polisario.

He recalled that Italy had previously provided aid to these camps within the framework of international cooperation and called on the Minister to establish monitoring mechanisms to avoid such misappropriation in the future.
